We specialize in treating OCD, anxiety, eating disorders, and trauma, working with clients in New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

Tatyana Mestechkina

Founder & Clinical Director

Tatyana Mestechkina, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, practicing in New York. New Jersey and Florida.

 

She has particular expertise and interest in using evidence-based treatment for obsessive compulsive spectrum and anxiety disorders. She was trained by a world-renowned expert in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP/ExRP), the gold-standard of OCD treatment.  She often incorporates mindfulness and acceptance techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to supplement exposure work.

 

Her approach is active and nonjudgmental. She places importance on creating a trusting environment and encourages open communication to strengthen the therapeutic alliance.

Dr. Mestechkina completed her clinical internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy, an internationally-known practice that specializes in the evidence-based treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders. There, she was trained and supervised by Dr. Steven Phillipson, an expert in OCD treatment.

She completed her pre-doctoral externships at Hofstra University’s Student Counseling Services, as well as the Institute for Rational Counseling. Dr. Mestechkina has also treated patients in specialty clinics including the Phobia and Trauma Clinic, Anxiety and Depression Treatment Clinic, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Clinic, Child and Parent Psychotherapy Clinic, and a Forensic Psychology Lab.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Norah Wallace, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist at CBT for Better Living. She specializes in the treatment of individuals across the lifespan, with a particular emphasis on working with children, adolescents, and young adults.

 

She has expertise in using evidence-based treatments for OCD and the obsessive compulsive spectrum, body focused repetitive behaviors, and anxiety disorders among all ages. She also has extensive training and experience in working with the full spectrum of eating disorders. Finally, Norah also has expertise and experience in working with individuals across the lifespan who have experienced multiple forms of trauma.

 

Through her work with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of diagnoses and presenting problems, Norah uses a range of cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT), including exposure and response prevention (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) informed treatments. She has a profound respect and understanding of the science behind evidence-based treatments, as well as an appreciation for the complexities of the human experience, and how therapy is both an art and a science, requiring a clinician to think flexibly and meet a client where they are.

 

Norah has received feedback from clients that she is warm, nonjudgmental, and down to earth.

Dr. Wallace completed her predoctoral internship at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) in their child and adolescent training program. At UBHC in Newark, she worked extensively with children, adolescents, and adults who had experienced trauma, as well as a variety of other presenting problems such as depression, OCD, eating disorders, and behavioral issues. She participated in multiple levels of care at UBHC, working in the partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient program, as well as outpatient department. Dr. Wallace completed her postdoctoral training at a group private practice specializing in the treatment of OCD. There, she received further specialized training in ERP, the gold standard, evidence-based treatment for OCD spectrum disorders while continuing to gain experience with eating disorders, anxiety, and trauma work.

 

Dr. Wallace completed externships throughout graduate school at Newark Beth Israel’s Regional Diagnostic Treatment Center (RDTC) serving child victims of physical and sexual assault, Fairleigh Dickinson’s Center for Psychological Services working with individuals across the lifespan with a variety of presenting problems, and Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute’s Children’s Day Unit, a partial hospitalization program for high school students struggling with school refusal and significant mental health issues. Throughout her graduate program, Dr. Wallace also participated in a comprehensive training program for eating disorders led by a leader in the eating disorder’s field. She was trained in enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-E) and family based treatment (FBT) for the full spectrum of eating and feeding disorders. She has also developed expertise in utilizing ACT and features of DBT for eating and feeding concerns. Dr. Wallace is passionate about helping individuals of all body sizes in their struggles with eating disorders and disordered eating alike, and operates from a health at every size (HAES) perspective, with a commitment to combating anti-fat biases in her practice.

Kate Hamilton, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist at CBT for Better Living. She specializes in the treatment of OCD, anxiety-related conditions, mood disorders, emotion regulation difficulties, and trauma-related disorders.

 

She works with adults and adolescents. Dr. Hamilton utilizes evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapies, including exposure and response prevention (ERP/ExRP) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed treatment. She has a particular interest in treating trauma-related disorders and has received intensive training in specialized treatments, such as prolonged exposure (PE).

 

She is committed to creating a safe, collaborative environment for her clients. Her approach to treatment focuses on nonjudgment, warmth, and genuineness. 

Dr. Hamilton completed her pre-doctoral internship at Center for Anxiety, where she developed skills in utilizing evidence based treatments for adults and adolescents with a wide range of diagnoses, including generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. She provided both individual and group therapies in an outpatient clinic. She co-led weekly DBT skills groups and was involved with the group individualized outpatient program. Dr. Hamilton completed her postdoctoral fellowship at cognitive behavioral consultants where she received extensive training in DBT, CBT, and trauma treatments. She attended foundational trainings and was involved in a weekly DBT homework club and consultation team.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Michelle Feder, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist, practicing virtually in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. She specializes in the treatment of OCD and OCD spectrum disorders, including unhelpful perfectionism, hair pulling/skin picking, and body-dysmorphic disorder. She also has expertise in working with adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and executive functioning difficulties. Finally, she works extensively with individuals with anxiety-related conditions, depression, and emotion regulation difficulties. 

 

Dr. Feder approaches treatment using evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT), including exposure and response prevention (ERP/ExRP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed treatment. 

 

She believes in working flexibly and collaboratively to help people achieve their goals and live satisfying, meaningful lives. She approaches treatment with warmth, openness, and compassion.

Dr. Feder completed her pre-doctoral internship at Zucker Hillside Hospital, Northwell Health where she developed skills in treating a variety of psychiatric conditions. She provided individual and group evidence-based therapies in outpatient, partial hospital, and inpatient settings to individuals with depression, anxiety disorders, borderline personality disorder, perinatal-related disorders, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and psychosis. She had the opportunity to practice several specialized cognitive-behavioral therapies, including CBT for psychosis, recovery-oriented cognitive therapy, DBT, and mindfulness-based approaches.  

 

Dr. Feder also gained extensive training in CBT through her two-year training in Yeshiva University’s Parnes Clinic where she provided individual therapy for a diverse population with presenting problems such as OCD, social anxiety, GAD, ADHD, and depression.  Dr. Feder’s other clinical placements included New York Presbyterian-Westchester Division where she provided CBT on the psychotic disorders inpatient units, NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens in the adult outpatient department where she worked with adults with a range of diagnoses and life challenges, and at Zucker Hillside Hospital’s OCD Center and Bipolar Disorder Center where she gained specialized training in ERP for OCD and in interpersonal and social rhythms therapy (IPSRT) for bipolar disorder.
